Community Connector Program

Resource Coordinator - Doreen Kelly - 503-873-0405
The Community Connector Program is a community outreach program that advances Silverton Together's mission of personal, family and community wellness by supporting individuals and families and assisting them in gaining access to needed services and connection with community resources. The Community Connector Program is a part of Silverton Together's Strategic Plan, the goals of which are to reduce specific risk factors identified as priorities for our community:
- Family Management Problems
- Early and Persistent Anti-Social Behavior
- Alienation, Rebelliousness, and Lack of Social Bonding, while increasing protective factors in the community.
The Community Connector Program employs one full time staff person who works to connect individuals and families in the Silverton area to resources that reduce isolation and promote positive health, functioning, happiness, and integration into the community. Examples of positive community resources include schools, support groups, recreation activities, health care, counseling, parenting classes, transportation, mentors, adult education, religious groups, family fun, sports, positive role models, and various government and nonprofit agencies. Each of these organizations also serves as a source of referrals for families who could benefit from a session with one of our staff. An office is maintained at the City of Silverton Community Center with daily hours of
9:00am - 5pm Monday thru Friday.
Key values of the Community Connector Program are:
- that all persons deserve to be happy and to live in a community that respects and values them;
- that the health of the community is dependent upon the health of the members who comprise it;
- that families, regardless of their size or composition (including single person households), are the basic building blocks of the community,
- that the mutual interest of families and communities is served when families and their individual members feel accepted and valued by the community and are integrated into it,
- that the cultural and spiritual values of families are worthy of respect,
- that it is the responsibility of the community to assure that its members have opportunities to bond with and integrate into the community to the extent that they desire to do so,
- that families, if provided the opportunity, desire to and can make positive contributions to the community.
This program furthers all four of the main goals identified by Silverton Together's Strategic Planning Committee:
- Families will have the tools, skills, and support to successfully raise
their children.
- Children and youth will be in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Community members will be aware of and have access to resources,
services, activities, and events in the greater Silverton area.
- Silverton Together will celebrate all families by demonstrating a
commitment to diversity and cross-cultural understanding.
